The average wedding cost, per the Knot and WeddingChannel in a 2012 survey of 18,000 brides was about $28,000.
Of course, an average number can be misleading in that actual costs for a couple can be well below that figure (think a quick elopement) or well above that figure (royal weddings can cost in the 10s of millions of dollars - fun fact Charles and Diana's 1981 wedding cost $48M then and a whopping $110M when inflation adjusted to today). Also there are tremendous differences across geography, formats, guest count, and the like.
